BBC Interview with Elon Musk
Interviewer: Good morning, Elon. Today, we’d like to talk to you about the issue of content moderation on social media platforms. Have you noticed a rise in hate speech on Twitter lately?
Elon Musk: Well, personally, I do see more content that could be considered slightly racist or sexist, but I’m not sure if it’s a widespread issue.
Elon Musk: Can you give us an example of what you consider to be hateful content?
Interviewer: I honestly can’t recall a specific example at the moment, but I do see things that solicit a reaction, such as content that is slightly racist or sexist.
Elon Musk: So you think something that is slightly sexist or racist should be considered hateful content?
Interviewer: Well, it depends on the context, but I do think that some content could be seen as hateful.
Elon Musk: But you can’t give us a single example of such content?
Interviewer: Well, I don’t use my Twitter feed much anymore, so I can’t give you a specific example.
Elon Musk: That’s surprising, given that you just mentioned seeing more hateful content. Can you explain why you can’t give us an example?
Interviewer: It’s just that I don’t pay much attention to my Twitter feed these days, so I can’t recall a specific tweet.
Elon Musk: Okay, let’s move on to another topic. What about misinformation related to COVID-19? Do you think social media platforms should be doing more to combat it?
Interviewer: Well, I think it’s important to provide accurate information about COVID-19, but I don’t think social media platforms should be responsible for fact-checking everything.
Elon Musk: But what about when misinformation is being spread on these platforms, particularly when it comes to things like the effectiveness of masks or vaccines?
Interviewer: I think it’s important to combat misinformation, but it’s a difficult task for social media platforms to take on.
Elon Musk: Do you think the BBC has done enough to combat misinformation related to COVID-19?
Interviewer: I’m not here to comment on the BBC’s editorial policies. Let’s talk about something else.
Elon Musk: Well, we only have a limited amount of time, so let’s try to stay on topic. Do you think social media platforms should have a responsibility to combat misinformation?
Interviewer: Yes, I do think it’s important for social media platforms to take some responsibility when it comes to combating misinformation.
Interviewer: Thank you for your time, Elon.
